Hey guys I have a DFI LP LT X48-T2R board on my server and it will not turn back on after being rebooted for an update.

There's sort of a click but nothing happens. Theres 2 yellow lights on the motherboard. If I press and hold the power button one of them turns off until I press the button again. Is my motherboard dead or is it the PSU? How can I test the PSu to be sure it isn't the PSU?

The post code lights that usually show a code, do not even light up. No fans turn. I'm thinking dead PSU but I need to test.

Thanks.

Take power supply to shop.most of the time there is no charged, just your effort to get it out

I'm thinking it's the PSU. It's a seasonic 660 watt platinum. when I searched for info allot of people said they have had problems with them dying. it does have a 7 year warranty though :) going to put in a 450 watt psu and hope it's enough. Server mostly sees a light load but it does power several hard drives.

I replaced the PSU with an brand new Antec 450 I had laying around that never got used. Compuer still fails to startup. I think I see soething melted but it's very small I will have to tr to get a picture in the morning. But I'm thinking it is a dead PSU. Q9540 might be ok still. I do have another board with a similar chipset. It's not X48 but I believe It the same socket.

What will happen if I swap my WSE server to that? Will it boot?

You can try to take your mobo out of your case and put it on a non conductive surface. Then power it on there, maybe something is shorting the back?

It's not likely, I think there is a bad SMT capacitor near the mosfets peaking out from under the heatsink (looks like something fried) It might be possible to solder ( I can sometimes do that stuff) But the DFI board is old. I dunno maybe if I get some time this weekend I will pull it apart.

I don't think there's anything behind the board though. I also read that since I bought the license code for Server essentials (not and OEM product) I should just be able to re-activate it.

This is a link so you can zoom in. The Second MOSFET towards the middle zoom in on the heatsink near the C

Near C145 it looks like the caps shorted and blew?
C794 looks suspicious too.

YES it is very dusty, I have been meaning to get it outside to blow it off every weekend for the past 2 months!

I have an old G45M motherboard sitting around. I believe it will run the Q9450 and take the 8gb of ram from the X48 chipset? Will probably have about the same performance too (maybe slightly less?). I will need to fish out a card to add some sata ports though.
