Computer won't recognize SATA drive

Hey all, I am brand new to SATA drives... I have two 80GB IDE hard drives from WD installed in my computer now and recently got a used 750GB Seagate SATA drive from a friend that didn't need it anymore. I have two SATA ports and have connected the PSU to the drive as well as the SATA cable to the port on the mobo. The mobo I am using is in my signature the ECS mobo. When I boot up and go into BIOS it doesn't recognize it and I have no idea how to use the drive even after installing SATA RAID drivers from the ECS website. Any tips? Sorry if this is a total rookie question... :confused:

make sure the sata ports are enabled in the bios. go into features setup and set your sata settings and reboot. see if it's detected.
 
Same problem... Went into BIOS and found that setting in the setup area.

It says Onboard SATA-IDE: RAID.
I tried changing it to just IDE and my system wouldn't even boot as it didn't recognize any drives. The Onboard IDE is set to Both so it recognizes my primary and slave drives.

You shouldn't have it in raid mode unless you are indeed running your drives in a raid. Does it have the option to change it to AHCI?
 
It's probably too old school to have AHCI. I'm guessing when you put it in IDE the boot order changes and that's why it doesn't boot. How do you see that your drives is(n't) detected ? When under windows, did you look in the disk manager ?
 
Yea checked under disk manager and nothing shows... Could it be my mobo? I have been thinking about getting a new one lately as my computer has also been having a lot of lockup issues lately.
 
Have you tried defaulting the BIOS (or putting it in "optimized" or something like that) ? The SATA controller may be disabled.
 
Not yet, is that a simple option in the bios I can change? And will it affect anything else if I do that?
