Computer won't recognize all my drives

Hopefully this is the correct subforum. I have a self-built computer running Win 7 Ultimate 64, quad core CPU, 8GB RAM, 750W PSU, etc. When I built it, I installed a 256GB OCZ SSD, a WD 750GB Caviar Black for storage and a DVD burner. Everything has been running great for the past 2 years. Last night, I added an additional DVD burner and a WD 500GB Caviar Blue as additional storage. All five drives are SATA and all 5 drives have power and data cables hooked up to them. My problem is, after restarting my computer, now with 5 drives in it, Windows only recognizes my SSD and the 750GB HDD. My Computer is not showing the 500GB HDD nor either of the two DVD drives. Any ideas as to why 3 of my drives aren't showing up? Thanks!

check your bios settings, start from scratch remove the new drives you added and verify all is showing up like it did before your new parts, then slowly add the new stuff one by one... you should find the flaw eventually

I did forget to mention that all five drives did show up in the BIOS as I had to reset my boot order.

Last night, I didn't have a chance to mess with it but my computer did recognize one of my DVD drives when I turned it on. Still missing the other DVD drive and the third HDD.

Without knowing your system specs, which may help, I would say to check and make sure you have the drivers loaded for the SATA controllers you are plugging them into right now. For instance, you could be plugging them into a Marvel controller and not have the drivers installed or something. Hard to tell without system specs.

Generic specs are in the OP. Are you looking for brand names and model numbers?

Did you check if they are showing up in system devices? Computer Manager --> disk management? Maybe you just need to assign a drive letter to them?

Well, they are all showing up now. I didn't do anything other than swap the SATA cables around. Weird.

what a lifesaver! i have had an SSD and 3 HDD connected to my computer for months, and only had access to the SSD and 1 HDD. i never knew about assigning them in computer manager. thank you! i now feel comfortable buying some larger drives, since i know that they will work

Generic specs are in the OP. Are you looking for brand names and model numbers?

You have hamstrung your own thread. Generic specs will get you generic responses. Give us the correct and detailed info or figure the issue out for yourself.
