Computer wont power up

Hello all.

I am having a slight problem with my computer. It won't start up. Last night when I got home from work I went to turn it on. Except when I pushed the button in, nothing happened. No sparks, no smells, no explosion and definitely no power.

I checked the power strip, it was on and plugged into the wall. The other appliances plugged into the power strip were working fine. The clock still displayed the correct time and was not flashing 12:00 (it does not have a battery backup). I unplugged the computer from the powerstrip and put it directly into the wall socket. Still nothing.

I removed the power supply (6 mo. old Enermax 420 watt) and opened it up. It didn't smell burnt and looked ok. The only funny thing about it seemed to be a rather liberal use of white glue covering the inside components.

Next I unplugged everything except the two power leads to the motherboard, Nothing happened.

I then dusted off my old power supply and plugged it into the motherboard. No change.

I have made sure that the wire that runs from the computer's on/off switch to the motherboard is plugged in.

I don't know if this means anything but when i do things like plug the power supply in or flip the switch on the back of the power supply the overhead light flickers a bit. Does this mean that the power supply is getting some power?

I guess it's looking more and more like a new mobo for me. But the board is only 6 months old..what a PITA.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Check the capacitors around the cpu socket & see if they are toast...It happens.

Easy way to test your power supply unplug it from ac and mobo

take a paper clip and jumper the green wire to the grey wire, plug the ac back in,if it turns on that means the power is good.

Its most likly a dead mobo, even if no caps are burnt up it dosnt take much to fry one of those ICs.And if an IC is dead ull never find the problem.

if this is a case of an enermax psu crapping out... it's gotta be like the first one ever.

those things just don't break from what i've heard... and i got that from Ice Czar, who is the most knowledgeable fellow that i've met on here so far, in that area.

most likely you're looking at a new mobo for the kill wall
