About a month ago my friend came to me and said that his old Gateway computer stopped working. We checked it out and when you plugged it in, the front LED's would come on and the power button would do nothing. Tried a different power supply and it did the same thing. We thought oh well, the motherboard must be dead so we took out all of the parts, sold the processor, memory on EBay, kept his HD, and CD-RW/DVD drives and he ordered a 2400+ XP, and a Shuttle motherboard. I had a Radeon 7000 that I gave to him too. We put the system together a few weeks ago and it worked great... until yesterday. He called and said that the computer was doing the same thing that his gateway did. I went over there and he had the computer plugged directly into the wall with no surge protection or anything. The powersupply was dead (just like the Gateway). It was a cheap one that came with the case anyway. I had another cheap power supply around and we put that in and fired it up. The case fans spin and the fan on the processor spins (plugged into motherboard), we get a green light on the motherboard, but no POST beeps or anything. He also gave me money to buy an 8500LE (off this board) that we just put in. I don't have the old video card here and I'm stumped. Could this motherboard be dead or could it be the video card? I told him to go buy a UPS and never plug the computer into the wall again but I want to get the system going again. Thanks
