Recently my linux box took a dump....it flat out won't boot. At first I thought it may be the power supply but I tested it and it seems fine, the MB is getting power because the light is going on whenever I plug in the power.

When I go to press the start switch, absolutely nothing happens, I see a little surge of energy in the CPU fan but it doesn't do one full rotation. I thought it may be the motherboard, so I bought a new one and threw it in, that didn't work. I thought it may be the CPU fan, but that wasn't it either. Now I am stuck, I don't want to buy a new processor until I am sure that is it since I already bought a new motherboard and that didn't help.

I unplugged everything that didn't need to be plugged in aswell.

Asus-A7N266 MotherBoard with a 1.4 T-Bird.
Using the onboard Sound/Video
512 Crucial RAM
OS: Gentoo Linux

Any suggestions?

This has happened to me with a bad video card... take everything off your sys but ram proc mobo and ps... see what happens... then keep adding parts back till u find the problem....

Cheers,
psycho

I did that...

It is onboard sound and video....The only thing that I have connected is RAM, and the drives....

see if you can scrounge up a spare proc from a friend to test w/... or just re-seat the one u have... Other than that it sounds like a bad mobo

I did reseat the processor, because I tested it with the new motherboard....

So it is not the motherboard, I am guessing it maybe thr processor since there really isn't anything left...
