used 2 work fine, and now when it's connected 2 the floppy the fans spin up and then it shuts down.

And when you disconnect it from the floppy does it work fine again?

yes it does. it's the xclio 450bl. the only thing I've noticed is that it's making a faint whining noise now. I had a 370w enermax and upgraded to this because the computer wouldn't boot, but I think the floppy was the problem with that as well. It seems that the psu works with the floppy on first use and then fails.

Floppy drives are known for shorting out. Try another one?

QFT.

And, countless users have also plugged their floppy powers in one pin off. Ouch.

if the cable isn't keyed and then is plugged in upside down, I've seen this happen. As always, verify that pin 1 on either end of the connection is going to the colored wire.
