-I start up
-Computer runs through normal boot up processes
-The Safe Mode screen pops up (start computer normally, choose latest good config, safe mode w/command prompt,. safe mode w/networking, safe mode)
-Regardless of what I choose it will start the XP load screen and then reboot.
-Process repeats endlessly
-before it reboots, a blue screen will flash up but wont stay so I cant read it.

Am I going to have to use the XP Windows CD and attempt a repair as shown in one of the stickied posts above?

Please Help.

Thx

Personally, I would pull the hard drive and put it in another computer- Save what you want. Run a fitness test on the drive, if it passes, put on windows7. If it doesn't pass, get new harddrive, put on windows7.

I dont have the technical knowhow :(
I posted while googling at the same time in hopes for a solution I could do. If doing an XP disc repair will fix it then thats probably my only option

you just said you had anohter computer

i assume you can pull the hard drive and put it in there?

it's not hard to remove a hard drive!!!!

jeez, youtube it for the 30 second tutorial

A repair install sounds like a great idea for your issue. You could probably do some manual restores from the console, but the repair install will probably have the same net effect. If you do have a way to backup data before hand it's a good idea, but repairs generally leave everything in-tact.

Yes an XP Repair Console is what Im trying to do
- I went through the process and got stuck after pressing "R" because I didnt know the administrator password
-I got around it by pressing ENTER (duh). Wish I hadnt gone through the trouble of getting a Password unblocker :(
-However most instructions say that it continues like a regular XP cd install and it does not. Instead it stays in prompt
-I can use the HELP command to pull a list of commands, but I dont know which to choose.

Edit: After finding a site with detailed info, I found this is the right move and I cant do it solo. Has to be done by a pro. As its not laymens friendly and theres no easy command to start a recovery or repair. Its going to a pro tommorrow.

If you have an XP disk, just do this. When it finishes loading drivers, hit Enter to install windows (instead of R to repair), F8 to accept the EULA, and then it will scan for prior installations. If it finds one, THEN it will ask if you want to attempt to repair the installation by pressing R. Go ahead and do that, and it should just replace your operating system files, leaving everything else intact. Assuming you get back into windows when it's done with the install, you'll want to run windows update again asap, and it will be like it never happened.

If it does not find a prior installation and takes you to the screen where you select the disk to install on, escape out, because you have some other issue.

The recovery console might be faster, but the above will fix about 99% of boot issues, and requires no "know-how". On most machines it will take about 20-40 minutes.

One thing I would recommend is - CLEAR THE CMOS.

You will need to consult your motherboard manual and it will have the directions to do this. It's VERY easy.

While you're in there, just double--check the wiring and make sure no loose connections.
