Ok, i'm having this really wierd problem...I have a DFI LanParty UT nF3 250Gb with an Athlon 64 3400 Claw setup. Anyways, I turned on my computer today, and it booted fine, until it hit the windows loading screen. It took about THREE minutes to get rid of the windows logo, and it just brought me to a blank screen with the cursor. So I restarted my computer, and before it could even try to load windows, I got an error saying "Unmountable Boot Volume"....so I popped in the Windows XP pro disc and went to the Repair option. I typed chkdsk /p and it started scanning my HDD and it said it found an unrecoverable error!? WTF?! Please tell me there is a way to fix this, because I have a HUGE ass essay that I need by tomorrow! :( BTW I also tried fixboot or whatever...didnt help.

goto the harddrive manufacturer's page and download their diagnostics, see if the drive died. This is hte most likely case. You might not be able to get anything back.

My harddrive: Western Digital 80Gb 7,200 RPM "SE"....argh...i'm so FUCKED if i cant get this working.

The only thing I can suggest is if you can get a basic install of windows on another hard drive, and chain yours up as secondary.

Might be able to pull some data off it.

Good luck!

Shit....i'm so pissed :( I have another 80Gb 7,200 RPM HDD ( Seagate )....I would just reformat, but my main HDD has all of my pictures/videos, essays, EVERYTHING!!!  FUCK YOU WESTERN DIGITAL

install OS on that 80 Gig drive and try to recover data from the other HD...

It's not western digital's fault. If it was maxtor/ibm/seagate/hitachi you'd have said the same thing. Harddrives are mechanical devices they fail far more than silicon does. It totally sucks that you lost you work and all your information. I've been there several times myself. The moral of this is always have a good backup regime to protect the data you don't want to lose because harddrives will, always, eventually fail.

I know its not Western Digitals fault, i'm just really pissed. I had to fail with my 20 page research paper on there..

You might be able to try some commercial recovery software to pull the data off as long as you haven't written over it.
