Computer Won't Boot Anymore

Here's my setup.

AMD Athlon XP 2600 333
MSI K7N2
512 mb PC2700 2.5-3-3-7(upgrade to ocz plat on the way)
Radeon 9600 Pro
450 Watt Powersupply

Last night I decided to bump up my front side bus to 175. Seemed to work just fine all night long at 175x11.5 on Prime 95. No errors.

So this morning I decided to push a little more. I set the bus at 180 and mult at 11. Clocked at 1980 which was lower than what I had the CPU at last night. I try to boot and now my machine locks.

I have tried several times to boot back up. I've disconnected the power completely for several minutes and I've also removed the battery to try and clear the CMOS. Neither have seemed to work and still cannot even get to post.

Any suggestions would be helpful.
 
Look in ur motherboard's manual for the clear CMOS jumper....you'll need to move that where it needs to go.
 
So I had some time on my lunch break to take another look.

I finally got the computer to post and get into the BIOS. All I did was change the the slot the ram was in.

I thought I was ok and set it back to 333 fsb which is what stock is. I then proceded to try to boot into windows and it locked up again. Now I'm back to square 1 with not being able to get the computer to post or even get into the bios. I will try going back to my old machine tonight to see if the ram will still work with that to try and narrow the problem.

With only 1 ram chip and 1 video card trouble shooting is going to be time consuming switching back and forth between machines :rolleyes:
 
the k7n2 has another jumper besides the cmos jumper you need to move also. if you overclock the machine too much, there is a jumper that has a 100/133 fsb setting that needs to be set to 100(labeled J10, middle of the board, near the back panel). unplug the psu, move the 100/133 jumper and then move the jumper that clears the cmos. leave the 100/133 jumper at 100, put the cmos jumper back to save, plug her up and boot. after it boots up, reset bios defaults, shut it back down, unplug it again and set the 100/133 jumper back to 133.

this is in the mobo manual in the jumper section, page 2-31.

p.s. i found this out the hard way, so dont feel too bad ;)
 
Yeah that should work.

The TTGI got good marks in Anand's roundup, although being a cheaper brand there can sometimes be a slightly higher chance of your unit being bad, but nothing you're describing sounds like power so yours should be good to go.

Hi, you found what? what did you do?

I dont get post no idea why , but i know i didnt change CPu speeds, i was just merely trying to boot to windows xp on my old windows setup which is from my old motherboard ASUS A7V8X-X and it gets stuck on the post where it says booting from CD-rom , i can not press F8 and also it goes to iwndows then but the progress bar u normally see is so different and then i see like safe mode and all that stuff and i cant move my arows up and down to select safe mode, my keys are like locked... but i it is funny because i still see the 30 second count down which when it reaches 0 seconds , it does nothing, not sure.

Does this mean i must rather fresh install windows xp because i have a new motherboard?
but what was anoying me is that i could not get to press F8 or even boot from Cd not sure why...

I can press del though, that works

but i think the last i checked and i dont know how i did it, i think i was messing with the JBAT jumper to clear Cmos and like i dont get post screen , not sure what the hell is going on, i feel like crying now because i really hate that junk Asus board i have.
I want to get back to my K7N2 which i had years ago (unforseen cirumstances it broke)


any advise
