Computer won't boot after hard shutdown?

The other night i was converting a DVD while watching a movie on my computer. It froze up for the first time in a long time and I couldn't do anything but hold the power button to get out of the lock-up. When i went to reboot a few minutes later, i push the button and nothing happens. No fans spinning or anything. The indicator light on the mobo is on so i know it is getting power but i thought it was a broken button or something.

I tried another power button and still the same thing. I've never had a problem like this before and its kind of frustrating not getting any type of response when I boot. Does anyone have any Ideas to help? I saw something about using a paperclip to touch the 2 power pins on the mobo to try and boot. Is this legit? Thanks for any help.

If you're not getting any fans or activity outside of an LED, I'd say it would just about have to be the PS. Unplug the thing and let it sit a couple minutes to reset. I've had a BFG do the same thing to be a time or two, and unplugging it helped. In my case the PS was a BFG 550 watt PS, and even though I was only drawing about 390 watts accounding to my Kill-a-watt meter, it still dropped out on me while folding with two cards occasionally.

Do you have a PS tester so you can check the voltages coming of the 24 pin connector? If not, do you have access to another PS you can try?

If i turn of the PSU via the switch on the back then cut it back on the leds and fans light up as they usually would for just a second and the mobo light comes on. But like i said the power button does nothing. I will try a different power supply just to see and post results.

Disconnect - reconnect the atx main connector to the motherboard. Turn off the power supply and unplug it first. If that fails - clear the cmos and try to boot again.

An alternate psu should tell you if the mb is any good then. Good luck.

1) try another PSU
2) if that doesn't work check connectors
3) still doesn't work mobo
4) test everything out one at a time

try having your psu recharge itself or find somehow to make that PSU turn on again.
