My parents recently purchased a new Gateway computer that came with Windows 8. The model number is DX4860-UR28. I was able to downgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 7 with relatively no problems. The issue I'm facing is that the computer will only boot into Windows 7 if the install dvd is in the drive. I've tried changing the boot order in the bios with hard drive as the primary, and still had the same problem. If anyone has run into this problem and has a solution please let me know.

probably some proprietary bs built into the bios that is causing this, seeing as their parent is Acer.

I think whats happened is, win8 is still on the hdd, the boot partition I mean.

That would explain why you can only boot win7 via the dvd.

Best answer would be to kill the hdd and all partitions, format and install win7 like that instead of downgrading, as down and upgrading os usually always ends up with problems.
