Okay recentley one of my friends received a computer from another friend to get him started. He knows nothing at all about PC's and such. So we get him a monitor and go to turn the power on, and nothing. I test the powersupply and its dead. I go back to my spare parts storage and give him a power supply. Okay we are all like its good to go so I leave and the guy who gave him the PC puts the PS in and it powers on an starts loading into windows, then it states that it cannot detect the keyboard or mouse. He tells me that when you turn the PC on the lights flash on the keyboard like they should then nothing. It is an older PC and the other guy told my it worked fine the last time he had it on which was like a month ago. What could be the problem withit .

Summary PC will not detect Keyboard and Mouse connected to PS2 ports but the keyboards light flash on startup. What can be wrong with it, and any input on how to fix it would be appreciated.

Well, he could have them plugged backwards.

Make sure the keyboard is plugged into the keyboard hole and vise versa.

Okay talked to the guy he said it will post fine but it will not detect the keyboard or mouse, he said it will even start to load windows but will error out. He told me he checked to make sure the pins were okay, and even switched them around to make sure he had them plugged in correctley. He said he cannot even use the keyboard in BIOS. I think the ports are dead, but what confuses me it that they keyboard lights up for that split second on normal keyboards so I'm pretty sure the KB is getting power. I'm gonna have to make a drive out to thoroughly check this out.
Any other suggestions, or is this old board passed its end of days.

Yeah you might have to go check, make sure keyboard/mouse PS/2 plugs are pushed in all the way, might want to reset the CMOS, if all else fails there are USB Mouse/Keyboards.
