Hi guys I have a htpc built around a AMD X2 4850e and a Gigabyte GA-MA78GPM-DS2H.
The pc turns on but will nott post at all. I can test the hard drive and the memory on another system and can stick a discreet video card in there to check whether the problem is the onboard gpu. But if all those check out is there any way to isolate whether the problem is in the mobo or the cpu?

If the mobo is fine but the cpu is dead and I booted the system would I still see the initial startup bios screen? Should I still be able to get into the bios without the cpu?

no, it will not post without the cpu and ram. But if you have a mobo speaker it will give error codes to tell you that there is no ram or cpu. Normally it is more likely a mobo problem than the cpu.

thanks for the info. found out it wasnt a problem with the pc at all. the hdmi connection on the receiver was the problem.
