Ok, so I just built my computer, specs in sig, and I am running windows vista ultimate 64 bit. I bought 8 gb of DDR2 Mushkin ram, but when trying to boot with anything more than 2gb, I get a BSOD.
Another note, I installed vista when i was only using 2gb of ram, someone told me to do that the other day.

I wrote down a couple of the codes that it gives me, if it will help you guys out.

Running four sticks can be a little quirky sometimes. I'd try swapping the ram sticks to different slots and maybe bump the voltage up slightly.

I've tried all of the slots, and I have 4 2gb sticks. It wont even work with 4gb, and with more voltage.

See what this does for you. I have seen another post on a different forum where it fixed the issue for the user.

Edit: There is a Vista 64-bit link near the middle.
This won't install for me, it says "The update does not apply to your system" and then just does nothing.

Whenever I try to install updates on windows update, it says "Windows could not search for new updates.

Error(s) found:
Code 8000FFFF"

Try setting the ram speed down a notch. From 1066 to 800 for example. I've had that work for me.

Do you have SLI ready or anything fancy set in bios?

This is a known issue with 64bit Vista. A buddy of mine just completed his build with that OS and had to boot with 2 gigs and install a patch before he could install the rest.

You would think they would have found this issue during testing.

When he comes back from lunch I'll get the info from him and post it here.

They probably didn't find it, because it depends on what hardware you have whether or not the bug is there

Actually, the fix that was listed above is the fix for your issue. It worked for my buddies system.

I finally got everything going, I had to delete a setting in the registry, so that it would let me install updates. I installed the update above, then also SP1, and now she is running great with 8gb. Thanks for the help guys.
