Computer Turning Off/Sound Disabling Self

Hey folks, more fun with my new motherboard. As I said before, I'm running an A7N8X-E Deluxe with a XP 2000+ with 512 DDR266 Crucial RAM and a GF4 Ti4200 with 128RAM. Well, it randomly shuts off, usually while playing games. I'm running a 300 watt generic PSU. Could it be too little power? I have 2 hard disks and 1 CD-ROM (I disconnected a second one) and 2 fans. Anyway, could it be the PSU or possibly RAM settings? I have no clue.

Also, now that I got the on-board sound working, it randomly stops working and I have to reinstall the drivers to get it working again. Any ideas on that one?

Oh, and I have flashed to the newest BIOS and contacted ASUS (no reply yet). If anyone can help with either problem, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

Not in the least. Everything is stock. I've tried the RAM in SPD and Auto settings and haven't noticed a difference.

Your PSU is majorly underpowered. For an nForce2 board, you should go out and get an Antec or Enermax 400W+ PSU. May seem expensive, but a good PSU is the best $70 you'll ever spend on a computer component. Of course, do some research first, but that's your problem. Go ahead and run Memtest86+ on your modules anyway, though.

umm.. he doesn't need a 400W+ psu. please don't suggest that. A quatlity 300W unit is plenty of power for this system..

OK, do I need to install MemTest to the floppy from the system being tested? I made the bootable from one computer and am trying it on the problem system and getting HUNDREDS of errors.

Is it even possible for the system to function with RAM that has failed every test?

Lol, apparently.

I don't know if you have multiple sticks, but test individually if you do. RMA that ram!

Ah HA! You were right! One stick IS bad. OK...now to see if Crucial will RMA it...thank you all very much for your help! Lets hope this clears up the sound issue as well...
