Hi, I have an AMD XP 1700 that uses an ECS mobo and that mobo doesn't work any more. So I switched my CPU to Biostar Pro. I assemble everything together and after bootup, one of the block to tighten the hs broke off so the hs fell off. After that, I re-attached the hs and from there on it automatically shut itself off after a few seconds but the power button is still on.

Did you reapply the thermal paste after it fell off.
Did you try reseating it?
Did the HS hit anything when it fell off?

I am not sure if it hitted anything but it was hanging on the wire. Yes, I did reapply the thermal compound. I thought the processor got fried so now I just got done tested with the 2500+ and it does the same thing.

check where your cpu fan is plugged in.. Many motherbords will turn off if they do not see a RPM signal over the cpu fan plug as a safety measure.

Ok, now it doesn't turn off any more but it don't see anything on the monitor. What can I do now?
