Computer Shutting Off

My computer has been randomly shutting completely off.
- There is nothing in any event log, other than the unexpected shutdown.
- It does not appear to be temperature related. It's happened within a few minutes after being asleep for hours, or other times after running for hours.
- I ran Memtest with no errors for about 6-8 hours. I've left it running, but I would come back to the computer being shut off. I'm not sure how long it actually ran before this happened.
- I flashed the BIOS, and the problem did not occur for a few weeks. All of a sudden, it's doing it again. It happened once a week ago, and three times yesterday.


Mobo: ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI MCP ATX AMD
Proc: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Brisbane 2.6GHz Socket AM2 65W Dual-Core Black Edition (not overclocked)
Video: HIS H467QR1GH Radeon HD 4670 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16
RAM: CORSAIR XMS2 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel
PS: Corsair 520 HX

I realize some of these parts are somewhat old, but I'd hate to replace the whole computer.

Any idea what it might be? What should I try next?

Do you have access to another power supply that you could try to swap into it?

No, my other power supplies are much older, and don't have the connections I would need. Does that appear to be the most likely cause?
 
Power supply is a probable cause but your RAM could be bad too, even if it did pass Memtest. Try taking one stick of RAM out and see if it shuts down. If it does, swap sticks and try it again.
I'll put my money on bad RAM.

It took me a while to try this. It POSTed with just one stick or the the other. I could try using it longer, but the shut downs happen so randomly.

I'd be more than happy to replace the RAM if I was sure that's what it was.

I think I'll try memtest again.
 
I forgot to thank everyone for their help. My computer went for months without shutting off. After it started doing it again regularly, I went ahead and replaced the RAM.

It went for several months again without shutting off. Tonight, it happened again. Who knows, it may go for several more months with no issue?

So, I'm guessing it's likely the PS.

My computer is old - maybe it's time to upgrade.
