Hey all, first time builder here and just wanted to get some thoughts on my setup.

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (90nm)
Thermalright XP90 Heatsink
Asus A8V Deluxe Rev. 2
eVGA 6800 GT (GDDR3)
Corsiar 1Gb 2-3-3-6 T1(PC3200) or PDP 1Gb 2-3-2-5 T1 (PC3200)
Seagate SATA 80Gb Barracuda

Any thoughts or criticism is welcome!
 
Looks pretty good. All seems compatible to me. Should be a fast system depending on what other system you're coming from.
 
I agree, maybe a 160gb HD.....160 gb, 7200rpm 8meg cache are pretty cheap 50-60 dollars.
 
I would also suggest more HDD space as cheap as HDD's are today and as far as the RAM goes i would suggest getting some with Samsung TCCD chips on it. That RAM there wont be worth a crap when you start overclocking. PDP has their PC3200 w/ XBL technology that uses the TCCD chips.

The system I am coming from is an old Compaq (1999) essentially 500Mhz :(

I don't plan on overclocking as of yet, but I will look into the TCCB memory.

I was starting with an 80gig, and maybe later grab andother 80 and put them in RAID.

Update

Decided to go with PDP PDC1G3200+XBLK for the RAM.

Sticking with the 80Gig as of now, but seeing as how I probably won't buy this stuff till after xmas, gives me time to ponder the larger HD. The Comp took a major back burner this weekend, due to me piecing together a home theater system. I still haven't decided wether it's good or bad! :p
 
You really don't need anything higher than 80 GB unless you...

1) Use P2P crap pirating them onto your hard drive...
2) Store porn...
3) Edit videos/frames...
4) Plan to use it as a web/file server...

And so on...
