Just put a fresh Windows XP on computer and in games its choppy and running slow, as of now my old Compaq is doing better then this one :(

I have up-to-date graphics driver (newest from Geforce site)
All windows update's
85 hertz refresh rate
1280x960 screen size
16 bit
Direct X 9.0 (if that makes a difference?)
Geforce graphics setting to high performance (as apposed to high quality)

I'm not real informed on how to work all the settings on my graphics card or what does what so I pretty much left it alone except for the High Performance option.
Computer is clean of Ad-Aware and Spyware also so that isnt a issue with computer performance..

Rig:
MSI KT6V Motherboard
1280 gig Ram
AMD Athlon 3200+
Windows XP
Geforce Ultra 6800

If anyone has any suggestions let me know. Im stumped of what little of know so far =/

What games and what framerates, at what settings? "Choppy" isn't enough for anyone to go on. A few usual standby tests-- look for spyware with Adaware, Spybot and AntiSpyware and close all unnecessary processes before running games.

Just a rule, your card's sweet spot is around 1280x1024 on most games at 4-6xAA. Don't run your games on 1600x1200 at 8xAA. :p

I would suggest that you might not have properly installed your chipset drivers.

Your motherboard uses the VIA KT600 chipset, and that requires you to install the VIA Hyperion chipset drivers that you can find here.

Download them and install. Should fix ya right up.

Good luck!

I was suggested that I didnt install motherboard drivers preavously, but then another guy told me that windows should automatically install and read your motherboard or something, reguardless I installed the drivers off the CD that the motherboard came with.
I will try the link you suggested.

What games? Asheron's call, made in 98, old game but fast paced pvp, not only in that game in Wolfenstien ET and some times while playing music it will skip sort-of, hard to explain, sounds like the computer back fire lags or somethng =/

WindowsXP is old enough now that the drivers required for the AGP do not work properly until you install these ones.

If you check your video properties (under advanced--->AGP setting, it should say 8x AGP)

If you do not have the chipset drivers installed, it will say PCI mode.

AA is Full Screen Anti-Alisasing... takes the "jaggies" out of a diagnal lines in games. The higher you AA sampling (2 is lowest, 4x or 6x is highest) the better the quality, but the poorer the performance.

Part of your challenge is to find the best perfromace to quality ratio that your system is capable of.

(acceptable speed with good visual quality trade-off)

Using the game in windows mode maybe around.. 1024x768 on a 19inch monitor...if that makes any difference.
Do I want my Anti-Alisasing off...? Really the game isnt worth the graphics.

Also getting a "out of virtual memory" or a error along those lines, think I have posted about this before with old gfx card.

up for more help
downloaded motherboard drivers from that link, still nothing :(

Ok, so you have installed the latest MOBO drivers from the website
You have installed the newest Vid drivers
You have updated windows and installed the latest version of Direct X.

After all this you are still having problems.

After seeing that virtual memory error message I would check to make sure your Virtual Memory is being managed by the system and not some crazy small amount.

Also, check your bios. Make sure your AGP settings are set correctly. If it is set to auto, set it to 8x or vice versa (solved a smiliar problem for a friend).
Make sure the bios has detected all your hardware correctly (CPU, bus speed, mem timings, etc)

Check and make sure you have all your power hooked up (4-pin and vid card)
