Guys help! I just tried overclocking my P4 2.43 ghz on an Asus p4b533-V.

I raised my volatage all the way up to 1.7v! and FSB to 162, and the computer keeps rebooting when windows is about to start. I am now at 160FSB and 1.65 Volts and windows seems to boot fine. Im a little upset though that I can only get this chip to 3.02 ghz. What could be the reason that is rebooting? Could it be my generic 300W PSU that came with the fan?

Replace the reset button, it might be getting triggered by unusually pointy air molecules.

dont listen to them...never be afraid to ask for help in these forums....

First off we need to know more about your system

Second yes you really need to get a new PSU especially if overclocking

Third it sounds to me like your RAM is what is causing your reboots

cause my old 2.4B would do 3.2-3.3

lol guys take it easy. Anyways u think its the ram? I have Crucial 512 PC2700 DDR333, ubt I actually under clocked it, when I increased the FSB I set it to 310MHZ or something so it still shouldnt have crashed at least I dont think. Whats usually the problem when that happens? Is it the volatage jumping around due to a weak PSU, or memory or what? Thanks again for ur help...

You shold run memtest86 to see if it is the RAM causing errors, google for it.

EDIT: If it turns up any errors then turn the overclock down to stock and if it still gives errors then try another stick of RAM.

Crucial doesnt like to be over/underclocked,,,but either way man you seriously need a new psu before you should try overclocking and undervolting that poor chip of yours...I cant belive they sell desktops with that weak of a PSU still...

Probably doesn't pertain to your situation, but it happened to me once. I had a cold cathode tube in my box and broke the plastic around the power converter moving it onetime... WELL, i went through a period where the systel would just reset at random. The broken *and exposed* power converter was touching the metal of the case whenever there would be a vibration and would cause a short. CLICK. restart. Took me a while to find that.
