my power went out, and when it came back on my PC wont boot.

it hangs loading XP on agp440.sys, then reboots itself.

ive reinstalled windowsXP into a seperate folder on the same drive, and that boots fine, ive copied over all the drivers from the new installation to the old one, and it still wont boot.

any ideas?

Glad to hear a new installation works fine.

Does your motherboard have built in video?

The last time I came accross this error, it was with a Compaq system (haha, not mine) where the internal video went bad (mostly... it 'sort of' worked). Putting in a new video card and reinstalling windows fixed the problem on it.

no built in video, my 9800np works great still.

from what i can tell, no hardware is messed up.

windows hard disk checker yielded no errors also.

In the bios try changing your AGP from 8X to 4X, and turn off fast rewrites.

unfortunately "agp440.sys" has nothing to do with the problem-- it's just a red herring and is the last thing that shows up on the screen before yuor system starts having problems.
Though there is this article over at MS, I hadn't found anyone who had good results with this one, myself included when I just recently had to deal with this...

do a goole search for "agp440.sys" and see what yuo can get, though i have to say that after 4 days of trying to figure this one out I just went ahead with a reformat... could have saved myself 3 days... whatever.

i can boot on the same drive just fine (just from a different installation in a different folder).

i dont want to have to format, but it seems like that is the only solution.

damn!

one thing i did notice:

right click on your hard drive in my computer, goto the 'hardware' tab, select your hard drive, then click on 'properties'

from there click on the 'policies' tab.

on the bottom, i had "Enable write caching on disk" checked. taken from windows: "This setting enables write caching to impove disk performance, but a power outage or equipment failure might result in data loss or corruption."

Deaf,

thanks for the link, ill try that when i get home, keep ya posted.
