Computer Randomly Shuts Down?

Just recently my computer has been randomly turning off and then my CD-ROM light blinks green on and off with no CD in the CD-ROM. Sometimes the computer doesn’t fully turn off and just terminates signal to my monitor, because I can hear my fans and see the optical mouse still having power. The computer turns off when it’s idle also with no programs running. I’m not sure which hardware component is causing this. I don’t think heat is issues because I’ve placed a floor fan up to it to keep it really cool, and it still shuts down. And also I don’t have automatic heat shutdown enabled in my BIOS. The frustrating part is that I don receive any error messages when this happens. The motherboard, processor, ram, and PSU are only about 1 year old. I keep the case pretty clean inside so dust doesn’t build up and kill my fans. I have been using my 350Watt PSU ever since I got this a year ago and it has caused me no problems. Do you have any idea of what might be causing my computer to act this way?

Here are my system specs:

-DFI LANPARTY UT nF3 250Gb Socket 754 NVIDIA nForce3
-AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Newcastle 1600MHz HT Socket 754 with Retail Heatsync and Fan
- POS Old ATI PCI Video Card
-2 Sticks of CORSAIR ValueSelect 512MB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200)
-3 Hard Drives (Western Digital)
-LITE-ON DVD Burner Black ATAPI/E-IDE Model SOHW-1693S
-350Watt Antec Power Supply
-Two Fans Inside Case
-Windows XP Pro w/ SP2

Have you looked in the event viewer to see if there is some critical error causing the shutdown? Have you looked at your temps just to make sure they're ok? Run spyware/virus scan?

If all those things check out ok I think it's your PSU. Try disconnecting a hard drive or 2 and see if it's stable for a while.

Check to make sure your PSU fan is working, and that it isn't clogged with dust.

My system used to do something similar, it would just randomly turn off with no warning, then not start back up for half an hour or so. Turns out my PSU fan had burned out, so the PSU was overheating, and then shuttng the system down. Buying a new PSU solved the problem.

Ya, I think the PSU is the cause too. I just wanted to get a second opinion. I'm going to switch it with a Antec 400Watt i have around. I'll let you know what happens. Thanks for all your help!
