Computer Randomly Restarts!!! HELP! :(

Ok, so for some reasom my computer randomly restarts itself.

Here is the symptom.
- If my computer is on for a while ( say 5-7 hours ) and i try to open a program ( say internet explorer ) i'll get an error message saying something like "the program is not able to initialize due to insufficient system resources "


System:
P4 3.06Ghz
Intel D845PEBT2 board
Ati Radeon 9800XT Graphics Card
2 hard drives ( 20 / 40 GB respectively )



any suggestions?

do a google search for memtest86 make a bootdisk and run it, if your computer can run this test for 24 hours then most likely you need to reinstall windows.

if you dont know how to do that then just search the forum im sure it was covered many times before.

have you tryed looking at the size of your pagefile? how much memory do you have in your system? Were you running anything else in the background?

And lastly what OS are you running? I assume its XP.


Try Unchecking the automatic restart by right clicking on my computer, go to properties then click on the advanced tab, in there. You will see a settings button for startup & Recovery, click on it then the next window will have an option for automatically restart, uncheck it then see what happens...

Pagefile is moderated by the system ( "let system determine pagfile size" )
1 GB PC2700 DDR 333 RAM

It is possible that you are running something in the background that has a memory leak and is using up all of your resources. After your computer has been on for a while open up Task Manager and look under the Processes tab. Look at the mem usage column and see if any one process is using a lot of memory or if the mem usage continues to grow. If you don't have a column labeled mem usage goto the View menu and click on Select Columns. This will give the option to add it.
If this is the problem either uninstall it or upgrade it to a version that doesn't have the memory leak. Good luck.
