Computer Program To Reassemble Shredded Files

[HardOCP News]

This computer program that reassembles shredded documents would be the perfect application for that spam shredding PC we showed you yesterday.

It's been years in the making, but finally software designed to electronically piece together some 45 million shredded documents from the East German secret police went into service in Berlin on Wednesday.

Same thing here.

Spammers should now stick it to the guy by taking his shredded documents and reassembling them... then re-email that re-assembled document back to them

This could have all been avoided with just a simple glass of water...

I swear I read that news story over at El Reg and they said something about 600 million documents. Either way very impressive feat.

damn, now shreadded documents are no longer safe, guess i will have to get a 55 gallon drum and start burning stuff to keep the dumpster diving ID thief at bay. oh wait, that wont work anyway unless the people that send me my bills and crap cant keep my shit secure nothing will help!

Well it depends. The shred sizes in those bags are pretty big strips and hand ripping was never effective means of destroying a document. Now days shredder strips are smaller and government and really sensitive information shredders make them really tiny like a width on a knife blade or even shred them into powder. Also look at the cost of this technology. Its goingg to cost a fortune to this so you would need to be really desperate and have a exact thing you want and be able to keep it secret that you are doing this for like six years. All very tough road blocks. But this does have potential to become cheaper and more effective and that yes could be scary.

Government shreds, burns, and then pulps the paper.
