Computer Problems, possibly Hard Drive?

I got a new motherboard today to replace an older fried m.b. I just got a cheap motherboard cause it was a good deal from fry's, I'm on a budget, and its not much more then an old school socket 370 board. It was $109 for a P4 2.4ghz 1mb cache cpu, and a POS ECS PT800CE-A with a VIAPT800CE chipset. I also got 512kb Of Kingston pc2700 memory to put in it. But anyways, I have windows installed and everything, done a few of the updates, but everytime I shut down my computer it says, The boot devices have changed. BBS boot priority will be affected. Please enter setup to check.
Then I go into the BIOS setup menu, and make sure the boot order is correct. Then I exit, and save, and when it gets to the part where it is Verifying DMI Pool Data, it says "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER. I tried putting in the windows cd, and pressing enter and it did nothing. When I press enter it just says the say thing over and over. I am able to boot from the cd though. When i reset the cmos with the jumper on the board, and reboot, it says CMOS checksum error - defaults loaded... Warning! CPU has been changed or CPU Ratio changed fail. Please re-enter CPU settings in the CMOS setup and remember to save before you quit. So I go in to the setup and change the boot order, boots into windows perfectly. but it continues this cycle everytime I restart or shutdown. I have double checked jumper settings, and they were fine. Does this sound familiar to anyone or do you have any ideas. PLEASE HELP :D

I would check for a newer BIOS for your mobo, doesn't sound like a HDD problem to me
 
I will do that. In the mean time any other idea's of things I can do to trouble shoot it, and get as close to a for sure answer as you can get with computers....
 
Ok, now it isn't booting up at all. It is just going back and forth randomly between those messages when I try and boot up. I cant download a new version of the BIOS cause this board it looks like doesn't have an update on there website. So I dont know what to do from here....
 
Doesn't a P4 that runs at 800MHz need PC3200 memory? Or is this a 400MHz or 533MHz part? That would mean a PC1600 or PC2100 part. Just checking that the slower mem isn't throttling down the faster processor.

When you installed your system, when it rebooted the first time, did you go into the BIOS and change the boot order? If you didn't it may hang and say 'no os found'. if it doesn't hang it will usually say something like 'using boot file found on ... " and boot. this is saying that it had to scan everything to find the boot record / ntloader.
 
yeah your right about needing the pc3200 ram for a 800fsb system. But that is a different computer. This one Is 533mhz, 1mb Cache. But I changed a few settings in the BIOS and got it working. :) Thanks
