Computer Problems... Need Help

I have a 120gig hard drive and a 40 gig hard drive. My 120 gig hard drive took a crap. I reformatted it and repartitioned it and a few days later the hard drive decided to take a crap again. I think this is because of the motherboard.

I plugged the hard drive into master and slave on the same ide cable. My 120 gig hard drive doesnt show. Just my 40 gig.

I then put the 2 hard drive into 2 different ide channels, but my motherboard doesnt post. It hangs @ post. It sees both my hard drives, but doesnt move further past post.

Whats the problem? Motherboard? Or hard drives?

Oh and sometimes the hard drive works and sometimes the hard drive doesnt want to boot, and sometimes it boots but i cant access the hard drive because it wants me to reformat it. Right now its working and im able to access the drive and see all the files just fine. But if i restart the computer, it might not work.
 
Definately the drive. When you put them on the same cable, did you make sure and check your slave/master/cs jumpers? I tried for 3 hours trying to make a computer recognize a second drive only to realize my dumbass forgot to check jumpers. Now that's the first thing I do.

If its crapping out on you, you might have a bad drive. Have you trid the manufacturers drive testing utility? Try that.

If you are adamant it could be your mobo, try the drive on another computer. If it craps out there, you know its the drive.
 
what file system are you using? I used to have a HD that was a victim of a static electricity.. with FAT32 it was crapping out after filling it with more than 50% of total capacity.. NTFS solved the problem.. but it actually might be that your problem is a little more serious..
 
Master is where its should be set. Master. THe 120 is at CS. Tryed Slave didnt work.

I havent tryed putting it into another computer. Ill give that a try. Right now its working fine, so im taking as much stuff off it as i can.

The manufactures Western Digital Disk Util... Says the drive is working perfect. didnt find anything wrong with it.

Before all this started happening it was a FAT32 partition. Never repartitioned it because i had well over 80 gigs full on this partition. Now after i lost all 80 gigs worth of stuff. I repartitoned it to NTFS and its starting to do the same thing with just 10 gigs of MP3's on there..
 
You know, I had a western digital and it crapped out. I went to their website and typed in the serial number in thier warranty thinger and it was still covered. They issued an RMA, I sent in a 100gb, and they sent back a 160gb... sweet!! that's an option...

If its working now, who knows what the hell is wrong with it. Like I said, try it on another pc.
 
could be static...

what else you got in that thing? i have heard that pc's stuffed to the gills sometimes overtax the psu, resulting in voltage fluctuation on the rails.
