computer off when XP loading in the 1st sceen

hi guys

ASUS P4S533 MX
P4 1.8Ghz socket 478-pin
XP pro SP 2
maxtor 20GB
seagate baracuda 40GB
300GB external hard disk
256MB Ram DDR [cant remember, 333 or 400]
AGP Nvidia 9180SE 128MB
[this computer only for office's work and internet]

I dont understand, computer shut off at the first loading screen of XP. [lan cable plug in, usb device plug in]

when i unplug the external 300GB hard disk from the usb, the XP runs well up to the desktop [lan cable plug in, usb device unplug] >>> if i plug in the usb device, the computer shut off right away

i did them around

which one is the problem, the XP or the motherboard
but when i start with lan cable plug in, usb device plug in, the computer on, runs smooth until the first sceen XP loading, the computer shut off

or does it i need more power [greater watt power supply] ?

not quite sure with that, it has sticker on it, says 230V
it's micro ATX power supply

You can pick up a better power supply for fairly cheap. That's where I would start. It could also be some type of conflict between the devices. Are there any relevant errors in the event log?
 
Yep, not enough power. If it NEEDS to run right now, unplug all un-needed devices. When this happened to me, I unplugged a fan or two and my floppy drive. Allowed me to at least use low powered apps until the new PSU arrived.

But yes, you need a new PSU or alot less crap in that PC... I'm leaning towards new PSU.

EDIT: Now that I just looked at those system specs I say you would probably be safe with a 420W. They are fairly cheap now for a decent one, and ran my setup fine...til it broke last week :(

But I got a new one!!! :p
