Computer Instablity during games. HELP!

Whenever I play Call of duty 2 it crashes after a certain amount of time...my computer will go black and when I press a key it'll reboot....weird...
At first I thought this was due to overclocking...so I went to my default 3.6 ghz speed but the same thing happens...My cpu temps aren't getting high so I don't know why this is doing this...this will happen on other games too like FEAR or NFSMW but not as often...it's quite annoying...I even went to activision and followed their directions to turn down the hardware acceleration for my Sound card and reduce my screen res to 800*600...this does nothing to help...what the hell should I do

Note: I once had to take off the heatsink off the VRUs on my motherboard, but I replaced it...so i shouldn't be that...but is it possible that I have to reapply the heatsink with new thermal paste?

Also I've gotten a blue screen that says bad_pooler_manager, or something like that...is that a clue?

I'd check your power options. It sounds like you've got your PC set to go into sleep or hibernate mode after a certain period of time.

If you asked for help, and people are giving suggestions, you should probably take them or not ask for help at all. Regardless, I would try the power suggestion, or Memtest86 and Prime95 are always good to run just to make sure. Sometimes the most basic things are the answer to the most complicated problem. COD2 brings my crappy power suppy to its knees. Doom3 and 3dmark are ok though. I get crashed in COd2 as well soemtimes, so find a way to check your 12v line during a game. Mabye hook up a second montior. Mine was getting down to 10.8v during the game, and if i oc'ed my x2 3800 to 2.5 @ stock volts, it would crash after 5 mins. So now i have to run stock everything, and it still gets down to 11.0-10.9

A few questions....

1. When you went with WCing your vid cards did you put some form of heatsinks on your video ram and make sure you have airflow across them? It sounds like graphic intensive games is the problem which would lead me to believe it *could* be a heat problem.

2. Do you still have good airflow through your case? Even though you may be WCing some primary components with 2 HDS, 2gigs Ram, 2 Vid cards, etc there is alot of heat generation going on in that case. You will still need a fair amount of air flow to keep the non-heat sinked items cool(ish).

How warm does your case get while playing?

Lastly, and this is not to be insulting but I gotta ask....is there any chance its a motherboard based shutdown option based on voltage variances or heat? If the audible warning was somehow turned off you could see almost exactly the situation you are suggesting. Its a bit difficult to check full load temps unless you are running a monitoring type software so it may be a temp spike that leads to the crash.

So if i want to play COD2, i had to change my OC as well.

What power supplies were you using when you ran into those problems. Just guessing but I *thought* the Antec True Power 550 would be sufficient to his task assuming it doesnt have any issues.

The reason I am wondering is that a new PS is next on my list of 'things to get' for my system .

COD2 is the only game that gives me an issue.. and I have apretty nice PSU.

I am surprised I have to admit. I know thats one heckuva PSU and in all honesty its one I have been eyeing for a while. Thanks for the info.

(I do not consider this to be an negative mark on the PSU, I do however have to wonder what in the heck is going on with CoD to require that much power)

mine is an uber uber uber crappy $40 680watt!!!! Chief Max (lol). It sucks donkey dangely parts. I burnt up my Pc Power and Cooling 510 deluxe when i slapped a 320 peltier into my x2 3800 @ 2850 @ 1.62v oc'd 7800gt mix. Heard a pop, black screen, dead system, and smelt the sweet stentch of.... well, burning! I should have it back tommrow, and see if my nf4 chipset water block will stablize my 2.95ghz OC. No more peltier though

But oh yes, i never did get a chance to play COD2 with the 510d, but i was able to get a 2750 stable oc at 1.55 and maintain a nice 11.8-11.9 12v line
