Weird problem that just started happening.

Computer seems to freeze for 2 sec every 30 sec or so.

Specs in sig, winxp sp1 with all patches.

Oh yea, this is on the desktop pc.

My computer was doing that when i first put it together.... CPU useage would jump to 100+ and memory would jump up too for like a few seconds

come to find out I had a virus and i scanned and it deleted it and I never had the problem since

Processor may be overheating. The P4s have throttling so they don't burn themselves out and they will stop and start so it won't overheat. Check your temps.

could it be one of the windows services? a lot of them are not needed for a home PC. however I have never seen that happen.

Run Prime to see if you are stable...And maybe you should run Memtest also...

I ahd that problem with my brand new computer....it turned out updating windows helped... it seems that msn messenger or some bull shit like that had a memory flood issue.... anyhow, it's never come back...

this happened to me, try this:

uninstall shockwave and java.

yes, it's that simple, nearly drove me up the wall.

i had this problem, unplug any hardware lately? my joystick drivers kept searching for my USB sidewinder every so often and would lock up my comp for a few seconds... plugged my joystick back in and problem went away.

... unplugged joystick problem came back... deleted device drivers, problem went away :p

Hit ctrl-alt-del and see go to ur running processes. Look closely at whats running there and how much CPU usage things are taking. You should see some process jumping to 100% CPU usage when it lags like that. Once u find out which process is causing the prob, search ur HDD for it and remove all instances of it.

Spybot and adaware are excellent programs, they just cant find EVERYTHING, so u gotta check on ur own sometimes.

Finally fixed the problem. I turned off video and bios caching in the bios and now the computer is happy. For some odd reason it corrupted the raid 0 array. Luckily I had evreything backed up and when I disabled those settings in the bios no more hiccups.
