***i was told to post this here from a friend***

I recently built a new computer, everything was fine until we tried to plug in a Dell P/S into a new ESC mobo.. DELL messes with their wiring and it caused a spark[not many, just one small one] when we plugged the p/s into the mobo. Then we went out and bought a new p/s and case. Then we set it all up and everything worked fine, until like 5days after that when i restarted my computer it wouldnt start up again.. the farthest it got to was, "click F1 to go to setup and F2 to start normally" ... We believe it is the mobo that is messing it up, but not sure.. below r the specs of the computer

CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2100+ [not the problem]
MEMORY: 256mb DDR ram[not the problem]
Harddrive: 1 40gb and 1 20gb[not the problem]
OS: XP home edition
Mobo: MB SISS735|5P1A K7S5A PRO ECS RTL

It just wont start up.. we think it is our mobo, but were really not sure.. any help at all would be very gladly accepted, and if you need any more info plz tell me.

(I do plan on getting more ram too)

perhaps you should try hitting F1, setting up the correct values, and then try again.

If the computer worked fine for 5 days, then either someone changed something, or a piece of hardware went bad. Those are you only options, because computers won't change their own settings randomly.

dell uses proprietary wiring for their PSUs and their motherboards. this makes it incompatible with any other manufacturers' hardware. you FRIED your motherboard, dude...

How do you know that those items mentioned aren't "the problem"? Have you tested them in another PC?

Anytime you get sparks weird things can happen. Sounds like you toasted your MB. What happens when you try to hit f1 to continue? Does it say why you need to enter the bios? Usually its because you added (or removed) memory or an IDE device or something.

NOthing at all happens when i click F1 or F2..

I know the other things arent the problem cuz i've tested em on other pc's.

And Yes, I fried my mobo.. we were afraid of that

it's all very well to say he fried his motherboard, but then why did it work fine for 5 days..? or perhaps he just weakend it..and the useage of it finally pushed it over the edge..

have you gotten a new mobo for it yet?

Nope, not yet.. I am currently trying to play competitive halo in CAL on a 600mhz.. doesnt work too well :(

my bro took the computer to college to try to fix, and get the mobo replaced and stuff... he'll be coming home on feb. 27, until then.. 600mhz.. god, i need help.. i really am going to end myself.

lol, if anyone has any help/suggestions.. please say so.

Yea hooking up that psu can cause all kinds of damage.

*sigh* Dell....

from all accounts ive read there is no reason for them to do that other than to screw the end user. They make money off the pc, thats fair enough. They dont need to rip you on upgrades also. Greed knows no bounds.
