i am working on a computer , i replaced the mobo and proc and memory with what is listed below, it boots up after i reset the cmos, but the processor is getting extremly hot in the bios up to 116c, i can get it to start windows setup but the comp shuts off , i believe it is because it is getting 2 hott...but everything is brand new and im using the heatsink/fan that came with it and its crappy, is this a heatsink problem? or is there something else that could be causing it to shut off for no reason....PLEASE HELP

Well, why not try using just one stick of RAM until you get this thing to work. Have you tried just one stick?

Do you have anything else installed besides your cpu/HSF/hard-drive/cd-rom? Don't hook up anything else aside from the above and see if you post and boot into windows.

My BIOS temps sometimes get over 110 degrees while I am in the BIOS checking out voltages/temps.

Good luck, I'm sure if you just kick back and take it easy it will probably work out whatever problem is causing your computer not to boot up correctly.

Did you say 116 C???

That temp is a little too high (read, very high) for a P4. I think by default they'll shut down at 85 C or greater on mobos.

The HSF that comes with the CPU is sufficient for it (it also features the copper central post). Either BIOS is reporting wrong, or you installed the heatsink very wrong (though the stock HSF isn't easy to screw up installing).

Other problems are like RonB detailed: could be memory problems, or tohers.

I had a failed HSF. Make sure the fan is turning. Also if it is turning then I would go on line and order a Zalman 7000aicu. Great HSF. I got two of them in fact...

the only thing that could be wrong with it is that you dont have the hsf on correctly, or the fan isn't spinning. I have that identical processor/mobo with the stock HSF and it idles at 28-29C and runs at no more than 48C under load, it's a nice HSF....
