Computer Headset Mic Question

Hey. So i recently got Fallout 3 for the PC and wanted to use windows live with it. But i have a problem with the headsets for the PC, is there anyway i can just playback my friends voices through the headset and let the game play through the speakers, or do both need to go through either the speaker or headset? im saying this because it is really hard to hear my friend over the game through my speakers, so it'd be much easier for the voice chat over headset and sound through speakers. Thanx in Advance :)
 
You can try using a usb headset since they usually have their own built in sound card. That way you can have your game play through the onboard and the chat on the headset. Thats the only thing I can think of.
 
Yeah. So here's how you do it. Open the game without your headphones plugged in. Then alt tab. Then plug in your headset. Then open the chat program and... you're good.
