My CPU Usage will become 90% just from pullin up a 30k program, making it go really slow. Was wondering why this might be or if it might be because I have a 200 gb hard drive that I havent formated yet or what?

Computer stats

KT6V MSI mother board
3200+ Amd Proccessor
9800 sapphire pro ati video card
2x 256mb mem sticks
200 gb maxtor hard drive
windows xp

thanks in advance

definitely. Most of the times you'll have something running in the background that you never knew was there. Get ad-aware and spybot.

30k program is asheron's call (game), it shouldnt be running this slow. Its a new computer and I run spybot S&D + Ad aware and AVG every other day. Pretty sure computer is clean.
I use to be able to run 2-3 AC clients easy without it being this laggy.

Don't know if this applies to you or not but I was having a similar problem -- looked at all the usual suspects...This is a new rig that I just built yesterday and when I benchmarked it with Sandra 2005; everything looked as it should. The chip is an AMD 3200 XP but because I have to upgrade the psu to run it with the 6800 I have to run it as a AMD 2500 XP for now. Anyways, when I noticed it was running slow I benchmarked it again after I installed all the software. All of a sudden however it was giving me the specs of a Duron 800mhz!!!

At this point I am saying WTF!? So I start killing programs like crazy to see the effect. At some point II kill this program that shipped with the IDEQ, some "System Control Utility" which looked like it smartly controls/monitors the fans. I run the benchmakr again and this time my performance is halved even MORE -- I mean its running like it was a 300mhz machine! So I restart the computer, open this so-called "System control utility" and notice it is set to "quiet" and it has a bycyle beside it. So I move it to "Fuzzy" which has a compact car. Benchmark again, and all of a sudden a *big* jump in performance. I then click the "Normal" button which has a F1 car on the picrture -- benchmark again and its back to what it was originally.

Like I said, I don't know if this applies to you but if you have some fan utility you may want to check if its on "quiet" because it might be throttling your CPU. Hope this helps someone.

Best,
RDL

I ussually close everything when I reboot, I go to computer performance and close everything like the roxio, msn etc...

ACDualClient - Multi client for AC
DenAgent - 3rd party tool for AC
Client.exe - AC

I use to be able to run 2-4 clients easy without this problem. Not sure what it is. Computer runs fine with music, multi IE browsers, cd burning, any semi heavy loaded programs. No idea what is causing this.

Well you whole rock w/ red color scheme isn't helping much ... :p

What is client.exe?

I have never had one of those...

It is probably spyware.

Sometimes I go to Run--->msconfig---->"Startup" and I uncheck all the programs that are told to come up. It seems to help my computer a little...

I played AC for years.
Virus can cause system performance issues as well. Run a virus scan, ect...

Also, in the registry check the following with regedit: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

See what all is running when you startup.

just some ideas, hope it helps.

Hey I found this in my spybot, its called "DSO Exploit" I have it on 2 computers in my house, it says:

DSO Exploit: Data source object exploit (Registry change, fixed)
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-18\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\0\1004!=W=3

DSO Exploit: Data source object exploit (Registry change, fixed)
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1606980848-515967899-839522115-1003\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\0\1004!=W=3

DSO Exploit: Data source object exploit (Registry change, fixed)
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-20\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\0\1004!=W=3

DSO Exploit: Data source object exploit (Registry change, fixed)
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-19\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\0\1004!=W=3

DSO Exploit: Data source object exploit (Registry change, fixed)
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\0\1004!=W=3

That will come up ever other day or so.

MAn I hate ACG I got 3 virus's while I had it and all it would do it tell me to run AVG virus scan what a shitty program.

a combination of spybot:s&d + ad-aware does wonders for me... each picks up what the other does not.

as for the registry tidbit... my guess is actually it's coming off an [H] server cuz that's the only place i go consistently enough for it to pop up... anyone got a more educated guess?

and DON'T ignore it, it'll just slow you down.

My advice, benchmark your computer with Sandra to see where your at. If you have an extra partion, try reloading windows on it. If you have an extra HD install it on that, benchmark again. Also make sure that it actually IS slower in the benchmarks than that the CPU should be. This will tell you is the problem is HW or SW. Probably SW problem but it'll narrow the problem in half.

When playing video game ssuch as AC... and running dual clients - I would suggest disabling the AVG virus protection.

It's a hog.

If I were you I would reformat and Install minimal software for playing just AC only. :p

You have to remember... games are constantly having new content added to them. The game becomes progressively more difficult to run on a machine. You may just be experiencing the new content slowing down AC.

I used to PWN on Ultima Online with a 333 Mghz Pentium chip. Now you have to have at least a 800, and decent ram to even run UO in 2 dimensional to even think of pvping.

It's just the way online games are.

Well I had a old computer with lower stats and such and could run many clients, new computer and i cant do it when alot of people are.
