My friend want's to build a computer to replace the 4+ year old one he has now. Mostly he wants to build one so he can upgrade or replace parts himself later since he has an HP now.
This is what i suggested:

Antec SX1040BII
Abit NF7-S
Amd 2500+
Crucial 256MB DDR PC-3200 * 2
Radeon 9600
WD 80GB SE
Lite On SOHW-812S
Samsung 1.44MB 3.5inch
655 Shipped

He won't be overclocking and the cooling is only the retail heatsink + the 2 fans that come with the case. So is that on ok computer?

Well what is he going to be doing with it?

I'd get the NF7-S and an inexpensive graphics boad. At least that won't be eating off his total memory. I'd try to bump that 2500+ up to 3200+ levels. If you still don't want to do that, go with PC2700.

Well you should at least up the memory to 512. Also I hope your friend doesnt plan to do any hardcore gaming. If he does get him a 9600XT, or a 9800NP.

You might also want to have him get a better heatsink and fan so you can bump that 2500+ to 3200+ speeds. Just incase he wants to overclock in the near future. :D

really need to tell us what hes doing with the compuer.

i say nf7-s and get a cheap video card.

I can tell you for sure he doesn't really game on it cause he buys everything for the xbox. About the memory it is 512mb cause I am getting 2 256mb sticks. Mostly he realized that his computer doesn't really meet his needs cause he has been trying to watch divx movies and they won't play right.

for watching DivX movies that should do alright...but as the other have said before i'd get a cheap graphics board, on board video sucks for EVERYTHING.

Sorry for the bump. I updated the specs a bit and just wanted some more opinions before we buy.

Well with the updated specs that looks like a pretty sweet machine for divx movies. Also since your friend does not game on the PC that should last him quite a while before he will need to do any major upgrading.

the updated specs are much better.

he can prolly run the CPU at 3200+ speeds if he wants. that'll give him more bang for his buck.
