I got home from work tonight, and my PC wont turn on. I mean the power switch in the back wont turn anything on. We had a thunderstorm today, but I was using it fine during the worst part of it - or so I thought, I guess. There was just about no more thunder at all when I left the house. 'm using an Enermax Liberty 620W psu; its fairly nice. Could it have blown at all? I just left it in the Windows Welcome screen.

I'm confused....would it be the powersupply or the motherboard or what?

PS - its not the cord or the outlet.

Just plug in the big black plug and do this?
There are a bunch of black ones....will it matter?

Also I thought I'd ask....should I be touching this paperclip while I do this? Its 620W...

Am I going to short out my PSU doing this?

Additionally, I have an extra Tagan 480W PSU lying around. Will it be enough to sustain the system in my sig if I have to RMA?

And by "ATX Connector" you mean the main big fat cable from the psu?

Yes the 20 or 24pin. All the blacks are grounds so you can use whichever.

But will this short out and ruin it? Will I get shocked real bad if I'm touching the paperclip?

This will short the PSU and make it start, no you won't get shocked and there won't even be any fireworks...just the PSU starting up.

I tried it, but got nothing.

I used a regular paperclip and linked the green wire with a black one (on the biggest cable), then plugged in the psu and clicked on the power.

Maybe not try it again with a drive and a couple fans hooked up to it. Some PSU's require a load ot turn on as well.
