Well, after about four years of having this old, run-down piece of junk, I will finally be getting a new computer on Christmas. The only bad thing is that I will be getting nothing else for Christmas... Well, anyway, I am going to post what my new computer's statistics will be, and I'd like everybody to evaluate them:


- Compaq Gaming PC GX5000T series customizable Desktop PC
- Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional with SP2
- Intel® Pentium® 4 3.40E GHz / HT + 1MB L2 cache
- 2 GB DDR / PC3200 (4 DIMM)
- 160 GB 7200rpm SATA Hard Drive

By the way... if anyone is wondering, this is a 1,834 dollar computer (in United States currency).

A friend of mine said this computer absolutely sucks.. especially for the price I am getting it for. Is that true? I'd like second opinions rather than just going off of his. If you're wondering what I intend to use it for I'd like to use it for gaming... would my computer be good for this?

For $1834 american, I could build a considerably nicer computer.

I mean

I sell an SFF computer with all that, plus a faster burner, bigger hdd (less ram though, you got me there) 17" LCD, for 2 grand. but the extra ram isn't that much.

But on a cursory put together..

I tagged a Optorite 12X DVD Burner
the same processor (retail)
2 gigs of Corsair memory
a western digital 160 gig sata
an 8in1 card reader (not 9.. sorry)
same video card
full legit windows xp
$60 case
intel actual motherboard with those specs

and came out to under $1500 including shipping...

Yeah but you didn't figure in that the Compaq X Gaming PCs use a Cooler Master WaveMaster case, 470W Enermax power supply, and an Asus P4C800-E motherboard. It also comes with XP Pro with SP2. That adds a bit to your estimate.

And you're always going to pay more for someone else to build it for you...

If it was me though and I had my heart set on it, I'd swap the video card with one of the better ones they offer and maybe drop the RAM to 1GB if you have to cut costs to make up for the better video card. That 5700 doesn't belong in that system. At LEAST get the 9800pro they offer, if you cant afford the 6800u.

Oh yeah, one last thing... I can't believe you're bitching that it's ALL your getting for Christmas. Fucks sake man, you're one spoiled SOB if you're complaining about an $1800 present being all you're getting.
 
No man, it's not that I'm complaining that I'm getting a 1,834 dollar gift (I actually have to pay for 300 of it, so 1,534 is actually the Christmas gift), it's that I'm complaining that people are saying the 1,834 dollar Christmas gift is twice as worse as a system which costs have that amount. A friend of mine told me that my current computer is BARELY better than the one I'll be getting.. and I've had this computer for like four years without upgrading it.

Gonna be hard to beat that for gaming unless you overclock or go with some Raptor HDs.

I put it all together on Newegg for about $1725 + shipping = about $1755.
So, figure you're giving Compaq/HP about $235 to assemble, ship, and 1 year warranty.
Now if you buy that stuff locally it would probably cost more due to tax and all, so what it really all comes down to is are you comfortable building it yourself and will your parents let you build it yourself? If you keep it for 4 years, that $235 kind of ends up being about $58 a year you gave Compaq. Not that much in my opinion.
 
The gfx card on that first setup is a weak piece of bund crap, the rest is fine, don't listen to these nub whores. :p :D

lol price is not horrible but not great, it's fine. Even though it's a Compaq *shivers*
