computer doesn't completely power down?

Hi all. I have recently put together an AMD64 machine for the first time. Everything works A-Okay except for a minor issue that's been aggravating me. When I turn my machine off, everything turns off except for two things. The optics (the red light) of my optical mouse stays on. I also have a USB extension cable that has a built-in light and this also stays on. These lights will turn off only if I actually turn off the PSU with the switch on the back. By the way, the USB mouse is connected to the PS2 port using an adaptor. Here are the relevant specs:

AMD64 3000+
MSI Neo Platinum
PSU: Thermaltake Purepower 420W

there should be a setting in ur BIOS to turn this off.
 
if it's something as trivial as changing the BIOS setting to have Num Lock 'on' by default, i'm gonna kick myself in the butt.

This is typical of modern motherboards...

Most have features that enable you to power the computer up by hitting a certain keystoke or clicking the mouse button. To achieve this it has to keep the mouse and KB powered. Since input devices can be ethier on PS/2 or USB it keeps both buses powered up.

Some motherboards have a jumper to enable or disable it. Others its done in the BIOS. Some allow you to disable the feature, but will keep the devices powered no matter what.

If changing the setting in the BIOS does not power them down then there is not a whole lot you can do....
 
hoo...this is news to me. u mean powering up a computer with a keystroke from a complete 'off' state? (not from standby?) sounds neat, but since the dang lights keep me up at night i gotta diable it. who knew those silly LED's could be so bright?
 
dah. no setting anywhere in the BIOS. Haven't had time to look over the motherboad manual yet. busy studying for an upcoming exam. any other suggestions?
