Well, my 4 year old alienware bit the dust today (I believe it was a combo of PS and Mobo failure). On the hard drive I have a term paper and other essentials. Is their a way to retrieve my data on the drive without hooking the HD to another computer? Thanks for any help. :(

no...

Not if you're not going to hook it up (USB to IDE... or straight IDE connection) to another computer...

How could you?

I'm a noob so go easy on me. :p Is it possible to hook the HD up to a laptop via USB?

I would lean towards a external enclosure. you can buy them online but you can go to any office supply shop or computer shop and pick one up for 20 bucks.

As a side note. If your PS and Mobo are fried disocnect that HDD from them as if you intend on playing with that PC to trouble shoot it it is very easy to fry the logic board of that Hard Drive.
