What is a good place to buy computer desk for a good price? Please provide links!

If you have a Staples near you and you're looking for cheap prices, check their clearance section. I picked up a glass L-shaped desk on Saturday for $19.50. It looks similar to this one but not exact.

unfortunately the jerker from IKEA has been discontinued, was and is the best desk I have ever owned.

Yeah, I had a jerker, too. It was a great desk, but I like my Galant better because it's easy to customize by adding segments to build a desk that fits exactly to your needs.

Yes, that's really unfortunate but I was one of the few lucky to get one 2 weeks ago, just 1 day before the stocks is depleted. It's the right color as well.

I enjoy my Jerker even more knowing it's one of the last being made  I talked to a Ikea clerk and he told me the Jerker was discontinued because it would conflict with the Friedrich serie (sp?) but I believe they made a poor decision since the new serie looks more flimsy and less adjustable than the Jerker.

Where do you live? If you live in Dallas, I can sell you one of the commercial desks or the Jerker that I don't use. I also have a Galant desk if anyone is interested.

i need to pick up 2 more of those side shelves for my jerker... anyone know where I could still get one??

I would like to get 1 as well but the closest 2 Ikea stores is out of stock :(

The IKEA guy I spoke with said "the CEO is smoking crack" when I asked why they discontinued the Jerker series. :p

Check eBay. I've seen those side shelves there, along with a lot of other IKEA stuff. Just search for IKEA.

I'm going to take this a little off on a tangent... What is the facination with open legged computer desks? In my office, I'm desperate for as much storage space as I can get, and having an open desk... as cool as they look... would kill all the drawer / file space that a traditional desk gives you. How do you guys get by with all that wasted space under the desk?

We need to petition to bring back the IKEA Jerkers.

I'm really dissapointed they discontinued those desks, they were awesome sellers.

My vote is for the Jerker if you can find one.

Meh - I saw some Jerker desks a few weeks ago at the UK Ikea store in Wembley and I was suitably un-impressed. Damned ugly if you ask me, and I personally wouldn't recommend one. Plenty of stock there, however the Galant was down to the last few parts. My brother went on a seperate trip a few weeks later and wasn't impressed either, and ended up choosing a Galant for himself too!

I ended up getting the Galant desk, which is huge - much more space than the Jerker - and looks 100% better. I got the massive L shaped one, and had trouble fitting it into my 4x4 on the way back home lol. I'll post a pic of my Galant set up later when I get home.

Something similar to this, except shorter left side, with a round return on the edge..

I personally build my own (no pics yet). I'm using my prototype out of wood right now. I could practically fit a sumo on it without it collapsing. I absolutely hate desks that wobble, or cannot be leveled. So I'm building a frame out of 1"x1" box steel and a 1/2" plywood top, then finish with pine and tons of poly. But, the best made desks were the old ones from staples, thick 1" press board top with a steel base. I think the damn thing weighed more than me.

My Galant has the same form, but with dark brown wood and a longer left end. Total price was $179. I like it better than my old Jerker setup. For storage, I have a rolling cart parked under the desk. It's the perfect workstation for me. I'll post pics when my Gaming Cube (in sig) arrives.

For the do it yourself crowd, here's an idea I tried many years ago. Go to a Home Depot or Lowe's and buy an unfinished wood door. Prop it over a file cabinet, or anything you like, on each end and you've got an instant desk. The door knob opening is perfect for all your cables.

Liquidate. :)

I find that the more places I have to put stuff, the more crap that piles up that I don't actually need, making me less organized. So having a set up with fewer drawers and shelves and cubby holes forces me to just keep what I need, instead of letting stuff build up. :)

How about I've been wanting a Jerker for a long time, and never had the room for it. I finally made space for an extra desk and guess what, they canceled it as everyone knows.

So Saturday, 4/14, I got dragged into going Yard Saleing with my girlfriends parents, lame. After an hour of finding nothing, we pass a sale with a desk setting there and I knew it was a jerker. It was in perfect condition and all, with the side mounts for a laptop and whatnot and a side holder to put the PC, a lamp, keyboard tray pullout addon and everything.

So I asked how much, they said 100$. I said I'll have to pass so they came back with an offer of 75$ and I said I'm broke sorry. Then they said 50$ and I said SOLD.

IKEA Jerker desk for 50$ with addons! Yes I love going Yard Saleing now!

Great find, Tree!! I'll be sure to stop at the next yard sale I see in the neighborhood. Who know what one may find?

Definately a good day for me actually. After finding the Jerker/addons for 50$ I also got a Saitek Throttle/Joystick that sells for I believe 120$ for only 10$ and he also including foot pedals for flying a helicopter. Apparently he was in training for a fighter pilot and got it free and had no idea how much it was worth, yes I was very happy with that.

Also, got a nice set of Altec Lansing speakers from a women who had just moved in and had no idea what they even went to for 10$.

And to top it off, I got a like new HP Photo Printer with 2 brand new ink cartriges inside and 2 extra ones still in the box for only 30$. I looked up the prices and those items new would have been 120$.

Yeah, I think I'll hit up more rich neighborhood community sales when I see them from now on....

I found an ikea with a whole stack of jerkers (or so the lady on the phone says) but i think ill look into the unfinished door thing 1st.

I've got an IKEA MIKAEL. Easy on the budget (60$), plenty deep and wide enough for most everything you need.

Works well under a window if you can't have shelves/hutch sticking up over the rear.

Look into it.

Think I have the Vika from Ikea ($5/leg and $40 for tabletop). Really cheap and plenty big. I had a Gallant, but it was too small. I tried upgrading the table, but was way too much and I would have had to get rid of the current table top ($100) so that was too much.

I set up my Galant just yesterday and got rid of my old table with drawers and shelves. I miss the shelves and need to replace them with something, but the drawers I didn't really need. Now that I had to sort and store their contents somewhere else, I could easily see most (all) of the stuff in there weren't needed at hand.
