Hey guys,

I'm a new member here after finding an image in Google Images that displayed a computer desk another member posted.

Anyways, I'll be moving soon and I've been doing some looking around for some computer desks. One of the members here actually have the complete setup that I plan on having once I move. However, I am having trouble finding the same type of computer desk he has.

A link to his post can be found here: http://hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=1037488528&postcount=1805

I've looked at IKEA and found a computer desk that was pretty similar (http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S89807626/ - $320). This looks pretty good for that setup, but maybe a little more than I initially planned to spend. I probably will just go for it though if there's nothing else I can find within a more reasonable price.

Question here is: is anyone else able to identify that type of computer desk he has? Is it the same as the one from IKEA in the referenced link above? Or maybe from another place and a cheaper price? Just would like some suggestions.

Thanks.

That ikea one you linked looks like it may be the same one. I'm not a huge fan of these though, I prefer the top of my monitor at or an inch below eye level. If you used this desk, you'd have to raise the monitor a good 7-8" to do that, unless you sit really low to the ground. But if you do that, you're going to have a terribly unergonomic typing experience (should have relaxed shoulders, 90 degree angle at elbow, straight wrist, cupped hands - like playing piano). That's why I prefer desks with raised monitor stands towards the back, or desks with keyboard trays underneath

Oh ok. Glad it just wasn't me, so that IS similar to the one in the link.

I have a desk now with the keyboard tray but I don't use it. The issue with my desk now though is just that it has cabinets and stuff, and it's not wide enough to support dual/triple monitor setup like I'd like. This seems like this would be a lot of space...

What kind of desk do you have and where did you get yours?

I have this one. I don't think Ikea makes it anymore, but they make a similar one. It's the Fredrik. I put a coffee table type thing behind it that's taller than my desk, and put my monitor on it. I like to stay 2 - 2.5 feet from my monitor - I feel like it is good for my eyes. Lots of desks aren't deep enough to allow you to do that, including this one. It's a 24" monitor, but if I get an imac - I'd definitely go for the 27". The setup works for now, but years from now when I have some money, I'll probably have a computer desk custom made, or buy a nice solid wood one.

Ahh, lol. I really like that guy's setup... but I just checked IKEA's site and became disappointed seeing the cost of the shipping at $369, totaling to $669 for this computer desk. Totally not worth it... Not even close.

Anyone have any idea where I can get a desk similar to this one (in my first post) at a considerably cheaper cost?

You may have to find one used locally if the shipping costs are holding you back. Is there an Ikea close to you? If it doesn't fit in your vehicle, see if a friend/family member has a bigger vehicle and doesn't mind driving. Throw them a couple dollars for gas, and maybe lunch.

No IKEA's where I'm at, unfortunately. I live in Baton Rouge, LA. I'm going to continue looking online and hope to find one very similar to that one. If not, I might just have to get me a van , heh.
