For some reason my computer will continuously freeze when i have microsoft word open and am trying to type a document. it will work fine for a bit and then instantly just freeze. Also sometimes when im browsing the web it will freeze but much less often. I have a 3500+ with an asus A8V motherboard with 2x512 PMI 3200 DDR. I do have my computer overclocked. it was at 220X11. after every reboot i went down and got to 212x11 and it still occured. The wierd thing is i can play a game (ut2004, the suffering) and it wont ever lock up at all. I dont know what to blaim the problem on. any ideas? i have a radeon 9700 pro and i have a 520 w vantec stealth powersupply and a slk-948u hsf.

I think i might have fixed it but this leads to a bigger problem.
I just changed the voltage of my memory from 2.8 to the default 2.6
now the problem is not occuring any longer. I guess this kinda tells me what the problem is. Does this mean the sticks of memory i have are not working properly. I know at default speeds and voltages they are working properly but i want to overclock. This is a new rig and i bought this set of memory from www.newegg.com on the 25th of june. This means its still within 30 days. I bought 3200 ddr. Anyone know if Newegg excepts exchanges for better/more expensive memory. since these sticks arnt working properly i was wondering if i could exchange them for a differant brand (corsair, mushkin, kingston). I also would like to go a bit higher as far as its mhz rating like 3500 ddr or 3700 ddr. I had overclocked my computer to 220x11 because that was the highest the memory would let me go at default timings. would i be better off going with a 3500 or 3700 set of memory for overclocking potential and if so what would be a good brand/model to go with? I am looking for a 1GB set of sticks for dual channel mode. money really isnt an object but i would like to stay around 350 max.
any help?

It sounds like a bad install of word.
well you would probably get the restock fee due to the fact the memory isn't bad, it does run at the stock speed.. so unless you can convince them that it is bad... like lie then you are probably paying restock.

Yeah, memory could be one of the factors, but maybe not the only thing. Odd thing is, it doesn't have problems when you're playing games..
yea it is strange, but then again maybe it just hasnt had the opportunity yet. I havent really played a whole lot but i would have thought it would be more likely to freeze in a program that takes up huge ammounts of resources rather then word or IE.
If i put my computer to completely stock speeds and the only thing i increase is the voltage to the memory to 2.8 it still happends. when i put the memory voltage back to normal then it stops. Is there really something else that could be the problem in conjunction with this?

just got off the phone with Newegg. They said i could RMA the ram and as long as i purchased another comparable item from them they would wave the 15% restocking fee. one question i have now is:

i like my mushkin level 1.. i can do 2-2-2-11 up to about 210... i am sure it would go higher at those timings, but my mobo will die if i touch the vdimm..

well im now looking at 3700 ddr. would like a 1GB kit of 3700 ddr. Anyone have any suggestions a far as this is concerned? What timings should a be looking for at this MHZ level.
are tight timeings better 2-3-2- at 400 mhz or is 4-4-4- at 450 mhz better?

If you want to overvolt your ram, get the ram rated for higher voltage.
Overvolting items then RMAing them when they don't perform as expected is pretty bad. If you want to use the warranty on something, don't violate it on your side. If the RAM you are RMAing was run in spec with the higher voltage then this isn't related to you. Before the last upgrade a lot of posters were showing up having overclocked, burned out, or otherwise abused parts and asking the best way to get around warranty claims to get new stuff.
