Computer Case Adhesive

I'm trying to attach a plastic fan onto my side metal case plate without doing too much work. I was thinking about just gluing it on. If that is a viable means of attaching said fan, should I use any particular kind or brand of adhesive? If using an adhesive isn't the proper way to go about attaching a plastic fan to a side metal plate, what simple alternative method should I use?

3m double sided tape is what i use... quite good imo

I would never glue a fan to my case.

Fans wear out.
Fans get dirty.
Fans get noisy.
Fans break.

i use magnetic tape. outlining the fan on the case and on the fan's rim. this way the fan is easy to take off but stays on. screws are a pain.
I also use them on the intake filters on the outside.

I have used JB weld on plastic to metal stuff before but it's hard to get it off if you overapply it and don't notice untill it's set.

For the most part I agree about just putting screws in. That's the most reliable way to go.

3m double sided tape is alright, its kinda like foam with glue on both sides, look for a product from tesa called double face tape, its more like double sided duct tape, and its stronger.

Magnetic tape isn't very strong so if you ever decide to move your case around or hit it, get ready for the fan to fall off.

I would have to agree, i wouldn't glue it to the case......


However, if you are dead set on gluing it to the case then try gorilla glue, that thing will NEVER come off.

He probably wants to mount the fan sideways. There's no question about gluing if he were mounting the fan as an intake/exhaust on the case side, there'd be holes there already, or he'd have to cut a hole out + 4 for screws.

+1 on the 3M mounting tape. The stuff with the green is good enough, the red/outdoor tape is too much.

too much, as in too strong? 'cause on a similar note, my CCFLs won't stick worth a darn with the included double-sided adhesive. i have one stuck to the ceiling of my case, and it "plops" down gently every day or two. if the outdoor tape is a bit more aggressive in its adhesion, that may just be the way to go (for the OP, too!).

The CCFL post reminded me of hot glue. I had a set that were made "crooked" and they wouldn't stick, so I hot glued em on. They're still mounted, almost 2 years ago.

yipes. that'll do 'er. if i remember correctly, once set, the glue can be peeled off in the future -- right? 'cause that's a capital idea, so long as i can get the stuff off when the light burns out on me in a year.

It's actually quiet difficult to get them to fall off. I usually have to twist the fan to get the magnetic alignment off then pull. For them to fall off due to movement, I'd have to drop it off my desk or something.
