Hello, I just finished building my new computer, but I'm getting problems when trying to boot.
It's an AMD 3500+ 939 pin, on an ABIT AV8, with 1GB (2x512) of PC2100 RAM, a RADEON 9700, a 160GB Hitachi SATA HD, one CDR and one DVD drive, and a floppy, all in a Thermaltake Xaser V case.
I was turning the computer on at various points in the assembly, and the M/B seemed to complain just fine (for lacking a CPU, RAM, etc). Once I was done plugging in everything, when I tried to boot, the speaker would just not stop whinning. The boot process seemed to proceed, but the speaker would continuously beep.
Consulting the motherboard manual, the only condition that seems to cause this constant beeping is POST code 0E:
"Test F000h segment shadow to see whether it is R/W-able or not. If test fails, keep beeping the speaker"
That makes no sense to me. It seems that the test fails; what does that mean, and what can I do about it?
So, anyway, then I figured I'd unplug the speaker and try to look at the BIOS utility. I turned everything off, unplugged the speaker, then turned the computer on again, but ever since, speaker or not, it starts up, commences the beeping, and then turns itself off automatically after a few seconds.
Any ideas? Thanks,
Kostis
