This is my first full build of a comp, and I'm not really sure where to start with determining the problem. Everything seems to be plugged in, and seems to be plugged into the correct place. When I hit the power button, the PSU goes vroom, the mobo light comes on, all the fans go, and that's it. It's a nice, quiet decent air conditioner for my room, but I wouldn't mind if I could make it do more than that. Heat sink fan comes on, as well. The case power light does not light, however.

so it turns on, but doesn't post? try various ram configurations (one stick in different slots etc.) as for the power led not lighting up - try changing polarization...
 
Did you put the CPU in correctly?
There was a post yesterday that had the same problem you have and they didn't know that there is a lever you pull up before you insert the processor into the socket.
 
if no power lights come up, then try to replace the wires connected to the mobo for the power lights and the hdd thingy
 
Let's just say, for the sake of argument, that I forgot about the lever, being a n00btard and all. And, let's say that I have a heatsink thermal-compounded to my cpu, and the heatsink is shaped in such a way as to render it impossible to do anything with that lever, that the CPU can only currently be seated if the lever is down. Given that highly unlikely and stupid situation, what would you do?
 
Alright, nevermind. I tried (harder) to remove the heatsink, which worked, I set the CPU using the lever, this time, and reattached the heatsink. Now to see if that works.

Do you guys get bored of hearing the same questions all the time?
 
Nothing different is happening. Still get power to fans, etc., but nothing else happens. Any other ideas?
 
try disconnecting some of your optical drives or floppy drives 1 at a time, restarting the computer each time after you unplug a drive.

you could also try to remove extra cards you have in your pci slots. i notice you have a sound card. remove that and try to boot.

so basically, try booting up with the bare minimum of devices attached to your computer. maybe your board doesnt like something attached.
 
...........and if that doesn't work, remove the mobo from the case, set it on an insulated surface (cardboard works great). Plug in PSU, CPU/cooler/fan, memory and your video card/monitor and nothing else. Short the power terminals on the board for a sec and see what happens. If it does boot Ok outside the case you likely have a short in the case. Verify you have no extra standoffs (#1 problem) and all standoffs are positioned properly.

While the board is outside the case, hook up HDs etc to verify all works outside the case before you put it all together.
