I didn't know where to post this thread, so I posed it here. My brother has an Dell Inspiron 530, and it wont start up correctly. When I press the power button, the boot screen opens, a then, about 5-10 seconds later, a message will flash on the screen. "AHCI BIOS not installed". After that, the screen will turn black, with no mouse, and it will have a small horizontal line flashing in the top left corner. This will stay on the screen until I turn off the computer. I have already tried to set the HDD as the main boot device, but there was no luck there. Also, I reset the BIOS settings to default. No luck there, either. There were no recent Hardware upgrades on this computer. I really need help, and any advice will be appreciated. Thanks!

you could try updating the bios if hes not already running the newest version.. throw em on a floppy drive or a usb flash drive formatted to look like a floppy drive boot device.. other then that its kinda odd that it was working fine then all of a sudden started getting this error..

as with regular repair practice, try unplugging ALL unnecessary devices, especially anything in your IDE/SATA ports. Also go back and recheck the connections/cables on all your remaining componets. I have seen weird simple stuff such as a missing pin on a IDE cable seem to stop a computer from booting.
