Computer automatically restarts before it boots into windows

Every time I turn on the computer it goes past the POST screen and just before windows starts to load, it restarts by itself. The catch is that it runs ok if I remove the outer shell of the case. I tried swapping PSUs and that had no effect.

This is the case is a Antec CS2000


There may be a motherboard standoff that isn't under one of the holes on the motherboard and it may be touching the bottom end of the PCB, could that be causing this problem?

What's the temp of your cpu? It could be overheating, that's the only explanation I can see. Odd :confused:
 
The temp so far have been ok at around 45 C, i'm running an older P4 1.5 Ghz with the retail heat Sink fan.

In the BIOS do you have it set to shutdown when the CPU reaches a certain temp? I'm pretty clueless. Just trying to help since no one else seems to be noticing this thread.
 
Thanks for your help, but my BIOS doesn't have an option like that. I may stress test the computer with the case off to see if it is a heat problem.
 
why not pull your mobo and see if there is anything sticking out the back. I know its a shot in the dark. I basically had the same problem, and was never able to locate it, so i reset mobo bios with the jumpers, and then it ran fine. Wierdest thing. My guess is my friend, a self-procalimed computer genious (more like moron),, was tweeking it.
