are there any good websites that explain computer audio?

like, i've been reading about 6 or 8 channels in audio or whatever, how certain motherboards come with good onboard audio already and there is no need to buy a sound card, etc.

also, about computer speakers, if you have a 3-piece sound system (2 speakers and a sub), does that fully implement 5.1 or whatever they call it sound? or do you need actually 6 speakers to fully take in 6 channel or whatever.

I haven't specifically seen any websites for computer audio.

Yes there are a lot of motherboards with onboard audio solutions, some are quite good. Just do some research I guess, but you shouldn't necessarilly pick a motherboard for it's audio, there are a lot of other things you need to consider for your system. I'd start with what cpu and other features you want to support and look in that group of motherboards for the audio solution you'd rather have.

Some sound cards/intergrated solutions will attempt to simulate 5.1 with 2.1 (what you have) but... it's just a simulation and you'll know it :)

You actually need 6 speakers for true 5.1, 8 for 7.1.
 
if i got 6 speakers, would i get 5.1? or it based off your current sound system?

i use a A7N-266 VM ASUS motherboard

The onboard sound on your motherboard does support 5.1, so if you got 6 speakers you would in fact get 5.1. How are you connecting your speakers now? There are probably 3 mini rca jacks on the back of your motherboard? You should look at your manual or something to see which ones are what.. you'll probably need 3 mini RCA adapters that each go to two normal RCA. The 6 RCA's then need to connect to your amp..which would then power your speakers. You might need to check and make sure your amp/reciever accepts 5.1 analog (RCA) in.

Edit: Or if your'e thinking about buying computer type speakers then usually the "amp/subwoofer" accepts mini-rca's stright for your computer and handles the rest for you.
