I have my computer and both my monitors plugged into a Belkin 650va UPS that is a couple of years old. All of a sudden, one day last week I came home from work and my computer was off. I asked my wife if we had lost power, and she said no. I turned it back on thinking that it was strange, and moved along.
I woke up the next morning, and the computer was off again. None of the clocks in the house needed to be reset, so I figure there was no power outage. I turned it back on and went to work. I got home from work to the computer off again.
So... I unplugged it from the UPS and plugged it straight into the wall. It hasn't gone off again since.
Now... the other night I am doing some coding, and I lose my primary monitor. I switched all the cables and tried everything to make sure that it wasn't the video card or cables. They all worked fine on the secondary monitor, but not the primary. I figured dead monitor. Well, thinking I would give it a shot, I unplugged the primary monitor from the UPS and plugged it straight into the wall. It has now been up and running for a couple of hours without fail (it was a backlight problem before).
Can a dead/dieing UPS cause these power problems even if it is maintaining a constant flow of power from the wall?
Anyone use this UPS: CyberPower 800VA Battery Back-Up System
I saw that it has the AVR, and is more power than my previous one. Here is what is will be plugged into it:
AMD Opty 165
DFI LP Ultra-D
7800GT
1 x HDD
2 x Optical
2GB Ram
2 x 17" LCD monitors
Thanks a lot!
