Computer and Analogue Recording--HELP!!!!

I currently have a band that is recording monaurial demos through a PA head. One of our members recently got some analogue recording equipment (Teac Tascam Model 3/5b mixing consoles). I have heard about a program called Cakewalk that can be used to supply extra channels to record onto and would basically function as an expander for our mixing console. How would we go about connecting a computer to any analogue recording equipment and using a program, such as Cakewalk, in conjunction with the analogue equipment. Any advice/suggestions on how to link a computer to an analogue mixing console or which program to use, etc, would be greatly appreciated.
